Before You, Santa Claus, Life was like a Moonless Night
Opening on Friday, November 8th at 7pm, micamera. Milan.
A night journey through Northeast Italy, immersed in the silence and in the darkness of the night, if it weren’t for those Christmas lights. A small light and everything is transformed, we see the road, we understand where to look, where to go.
Andrea Alessio lingers on the detail, trying to control chaos and at the same time appeasing his rationality. That’s what the camera does; it’s an instrument that we use to create what might not even exist and for sure, it shows us things differently from what we would have expected.
– Flavio Franzoni, Micamera
On exhibit, 31 black and white images by the Venetian author. The monography Before You, Santa Claus, Life was like a Moonless Night, curated by micamera, is published by Nazraeli Press. Andrea Alessio is the first Italian author to be published by the American imprint.
‘Nazraeli eagerly agreed to publish this book because we fell in love with the work of Andrea Alessio right away, and wanted to celebrate with our friends at micamera on their anniversary‘ writes Pichler. “’Before You, Santa Claus, Life was like a Moonless Night’ is remarkable through its visual language and allows us to get lost in a world where everything is possible”, says German artist Jessica Backhaus about the works by Alessio that will be on show at micamera.
The opening will be on Friday, November 8th at 7pm, right after the talk with Chris Pichler and Massimo Torrigiani on photobook publishing (that will take place at 5.30 a few meters ahead). We will celebrate Micamera’s 10th anniversary.
The exhibition by Andrea Alessio will continue through December 28 and is accompanied by a special display of a selection of titles published by Nazraeli Press over the last 10 years.
